Natalie is a product design engineer by training, but her main focus and passion lies in usability and user centred design. She typically leads the usability engineering workstream on medical device development programmes, helping to translate the user perspective and guide all stages of development.

Her work includes identifying new opportunities and guiding concept generation at the early stages of development, assessing use related risk and implementing effective mitigation strategies. She also supports actions towards the final stages of development, evaluating the usability of the user interface and compiling the usability engineering file as part of a regulatory submission. Natalie’s engineering and design background gives her an appreciation of technical development challenges and enables her to collaborate effectively across the development team.

“I am passionate about representing the user’s perspective throughout the development process to ensure that the original design intent is not lost in translation.”

“Good design involves thinking about the way that users experience and interact with products from the outset and as the design evolves ensuring that we continue to develop the right product.”

Natalie has over 15 years’ consulting experience and has conducted hundreds of user research sessions around the world for a broad range of consumer and medical devices. She graduated from the University of Glasgow with a first-class BEng Honours degree in Product Design Engineering, before completing a Master’s degree in Design, Management and Manufacturing at the University of Cambridge.

Natalie has worked on a variety of medical device development projects including, being the lead usability engineer on multiple diagnostic device development programmes and on an inhaler development programme. She has also worked as a lead user researcher on a large global opportunity discovery programme within imaging, as well as working on and managing many more focused usability projects.
