On March 13th, with the UK in lockdown, Team Consulting was asked by the UK Government to join the UK Ventilator Challenge. It was predicted that the UK would need more than 30,000 additional ventilators to help support COVID-19 patients.
Getting a medical device to market takes years. In just six weeks, we designed EVA – the Emergency Ventilator Apparatus. On April 20th, 5 weeks after the government’s challenge, the device went into pilot production at Cogent Technology Ltd, our specialist medical device manufacturing partner. Volume manufacture of EVA was possible.
Because of the changing response to COVID-19, the EVA ventilator is not needed right now. However, we could not have achieved what we did without the help of our brilliant suppliers. Loaning equipment at short notice, sourcing the resources we couldn’t, providing expertise and support, even finding food and places to stay for those working late into the night; our team was overwhelmed by the input and commitment of these organisations. The ‘Dunkirk spirit’ was tangible and it truly was a joint effort.
So, to every supplier, advisor and manufacturer: we appreciate the support, care and attention you have given to Team during this life-saving project. You are phenomenal!
