Company update

This year’s Pharmapack Europe will be the sixth year that Team has attended and exhibited at the annual drug delivery and packaging event in Paris. The event at the Paris expo Porte de Versailles exhibition centre has been a great place to network and share ideas with others in the pharma industry.

Pharmapack is taking place over two days from February 1-2. Our team of Andy Fry, Andrew Pocock, Matt Chandler and Vicky Shipton will be meeting industry peers and joining discussions around the latest developments in packaging and drug delivery technologies. Three years ago at the event, we debuted a novel approach to medical device packaging, applying the principles of ‘poka-yoke’. Poka-yoke, which means ‘mistake-proofing’, is a design concept that originated in 1960s Japanese manufacturing and aims to prevent human error. In the three years since showcasing this concept, we have seen and been involved in a number of interesting developments in helping to minimise user error in medical device usage.

Speaking about the packaging concept at Pharmapack in 2014, Paul Greenhalgh, our Director of Design, stated: “Rather than giving the patient – or healthcare professional – all of the parts of the device and all of the instructions in one go, we think that the packaging could help avoid mistakes by taking them through the instructions and the product in easy to follow stages. That is why this poka-yoke principal was so interesting to us. We set ourselves the challenge of seeing whether you could apply something found in manufacturing and assembly and apply it to the pharmaceutical market.

“We wanted to share this with our peers and colleagues at Pharmapack and start a conversation about the role that packaging could play.” In 2017, we will be continuing our contributions to the industry, as Andy Fry will be guiding the ‘New in Drug Delivery Systems Innovation Tour’ from 10.30 – 11.30am on February 1st. He will be walking guests through the exhibition floor to visit the 10 most interesting booths as selected by the Pharmapack organisers.
