Company update

For the second year in a row AstraZeneca and Team Consulting have won the PDA Drug Delivery Partnership Innovation Award, this time for the development of an innovative digital IFU platform designed for on-market autoinjectors. The award, presented at the 2025 PDA Universe of Pre-Filled Syringes conference, recognises technical innovations in the field of drug delivery as well as effective collaboration.

The PDA award is super exciting and I‘m really happy with the learning tool we’ve built together with Team Consulting. We know patients can feel overwhelmed when starting a new therapy and so we wanted to create a simple, elegantly built digital guide which could be accessed directly from the product packaging … right at a time when patients need this information most.

A novel approach to digital IFU

The award-winning interactive digital IFU was developed by AstraZeneca and Team to help improve patient onboarding and adherence. Drawing on insights from user interactions and on-market data, it is designed to address common autoinjector usability issues and provide users with a resource that appeals to different learning styles, while aligning with the device’s already validated paper-based IFU content.

With a holistic design approach that is novel in the field of injectables, the platform aims to meet the digital expectations of today’s patients, reducing the likelihood that they will seek out unofficial information and providing them with an improved user experience overall.

Injection anxiety can be a real challenge for new patients when faced with a lot of information at one time. We wanted to address this issue with a particular focus on reducing the cognitive load placed upon people starting on self-injection products. By offering patients improved digital patient support options, this Digital IFU aims to increase patient confidence, improve medication adherence, and enhance the patient experience of self-administration.

As a novel approach to instructional material, the digital IFU offers significant advantages over traditional paper-based materials, including the ability to track and monitor user interactions, in order to make tailored updates based on real-world insights. As a digital format, these updates can also be implemented faster and more efficiently than a paper IFU.
