Philip is responsible for the generation and detailed development of robust designs from concept – through prototyping, and testing – to production, while all the time working as part of a multi-disciplinary project team. Philip also takes an active role in client liaison and management.
“My job is to solve technical challenges with the most elegant but robust designs that I can, integrated into a broader product vision. The solutions we create in the Electro-Mechanical team combine a broad range of engineering disciplines, from mechanical engineering, software and electronic engineering, to optics and microfluidics. The sheer variety of the projects makes the job fascinating. What I find special about Team is that, whenever faced with a problem I haven’t seen before, there is so much knowledge in the Team office that it is not long before I’m talking to someone who has either knows the problem, or one very similar to it, inside out. It is this depth of knowledge about medical device and medical system engineering that makes Team so special.”
Before joining Team in September 2008, Philip was an engineer at The Automation Partnership (now TAP Biosystems) for three years, working primarily on large automated compound-banking and liquid handling systems, and taking lead roles in the design and development of bench-top systems for use in laboratories. Philip graduated in 2004 with a Master’s degree in engineering from Cambridge University, and has since gone on to be awarded a Master’s degree in music.
