During the pre-clinical evaluation of powdered drugs for inhaled delivery, our client needed to meter and deliver very small and precisely measured amounts of drug in powdered form. Their standard approach was very labour-intensive and time consuming. Pfizer came to us to create a lab-based system that could offer the precision they required but also speed up the process, saving valuable time and money.
Combining our mechanical skills with electronics and software, we were able to develop a system that was able to accurately measure and deliver powders at microgram levels in a fraction of the time previously taken. Once we’d designed the prototype and proved it worked, we built a unit for the client to assess in their facilities.
